What are fraternities looking for? It depends on the fraternity. Recruitment is a time for a potential new member to get to know the brothers and see if the organization is something he might like to join. In turn, it's a time for the brothers to get to know the rushees and see if they'd fit in. If the brothers decide a potential new member is fraternity material, they'll extend a formal bid. Once the new member accepts the bid, he becomes a pledge.

At Tarleton State University "Rush Week" begins during the third week of the semester. This week is designed to let you learn more about the fraternities and find which fraternity is right for you and for the fraternities to decide whether you are right for them. In order to register for Rush Week you will need to go to Tarleton Greek Life. Once registered, all rushees must attend the mandatory Greek meeting where they will watch presentations made by each organization and then get a chance to talk with the organizations members.
At the end of the week if the Sigma Chi brothers and you decide that Sigma Chi is best for you, you'll be extended a "bid" or an invitation to join. At the end of Rush Week all rushees once more will formally meet and accept their bids.
After accepting the bid you will be enrolled in an educational program called pledging. This program is designed to teach you more about Sigma Chi and help the chapter get to know more about you. During pledgship you will go threw intellectual exercises, shared experiences, and most importantly the cultivation of friendship and brotherhood. The program is designed to be mentally, emotionally, and spiritually stimulate the individual therefore hazing and degrading activities are prohibited.
The pledgship ends with initiation, your first introduction to the teachings of the Ritual and the beginning of your life as a Sigma Chi. After you have been initiated you will go threw P.I.T., or post initiation training which is designed to help you learn more about the fraternity.
The Jordan Standard sets the minimum requirements to be a pledge in the fraternity and sets the ideals by which Sigma Chi's try to live their life.
